A year ago, Lewis Tree Service became one of the first vegetation management companies to have a dedicated, diversity-supplier procurement professional.
To ensure success, we joined two organizations in 2017 that provided a wealth of resources to guide us on this journey: planning tools, databases, contacts, checklists, and more.
- The Women Presidents’ Educational Organization (WPEO), which is the regional affiliate of Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), the nation’s premier certification body for women-owned businesses.
- The NY & NJ Minority Supplier Development Council, which is a regional affiliate of the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC).
Lewis is dedicated to creating and building mutually valuable business relationships with diverse and disadvantaged businesses. This includes utility line clearance subcontractors, travel partners, equipment providers, etc. We’re also committed to supporting the next generation of diverse entrepreneurs, executives, and community leaders.
We recognize that the process of becoming a certified diverse supplier is not always easy. For us, working with the WBENC and NMSDC has made it easier. By sharing what we’ve learned and recommending these resources, we’ve helped vendors who were having difficulty navigating the waters gain certification.
As we grow, we’ll continue to work with our operations team to uncover additional candidates to become certified diverse suppliers. This will enable us to expand our network and achieve our supplier diversity goals. It’s a process of continuous improvement and innovation. And it’s a win: win for all.
Our many thanks to these organizations—especially for the recent recognition from the WPEO. We’re grateful for all that you do.
