Whether we're talking about our home lives or our jobs in vegetation management, making a difference takes time and a ton of heart. It’s HARD WORK to make a true difference. Two words come to mind when I think of making a difference.
CONSISTENCY AND COURAGE
If you’re not consistent with your message, behavior, energy, passion, faith, and positivity, you will fall short of your goal of making a difference. So what are your goals? Are your goals to ensure a safety culture, maintain a loving relationship with your spouse, or raise good kids who develop into great people? All of that cannot be accomplished without consistency.
There’s no time frame for when a difference will be confirmed and by no means will someone call every Friday to thank you for trying to make a difference this week. Making a difference can be a thankless and challenging process.
That’s where the courage comes in. You will need every last bit of courage to plow through the hard work it’s going to take to make a difference. At times you’re going to want to give up . . . It's okay, those feelings are normal.
It’s your courage that is going to fuel your passion to make a difference in someone’s life. WHY the heck would we want to put ourselves through all this? Don’t we have enough on our plates? WE DO. However, when I look at my wife and little girls, I know what making a difference is all about. When I look at D-20 (my team) and see where we were and where we’re going, I can clearly see that making a difference is possible.
The reward is truly an amazing feeling. When all that consistency and courage that you gave finally takes the shape of positive change in someone’s life, take a moment to enjoy it. The idea of making a difference gives life meaningful purpose.
Don’t wait, make a positive and impactful difference today. Thank you.
