During Hurricane Laura storm restoration in Lake Charles, Louisiana, one of our crews deployed from Florida was heading to a job location when a crew member noticed an elderly gentlemen alone by the side of the road. His wheelchair had tilted over, and he had landed in a watery ditch. His face was resting in the water and he was unable to get up on his own. Our team pulled the Lewis Tree Service convoy over at a safe spot. They proceeded to help the man get up from the ground and back into his wheelchair. Then they rolled him to the front door of his home where they were thanked by his wife.
We were thankful to be there to help this man (i.e., right place, right time) and to be able to stop the convoy safely. During our After-Action Review, we learned/discussed never leaving our elders alone or, if not possible, to always be attentive and alert regarding where our elders are, what they’re doing and with whom.
Congratulations to Lewis Tree Service crew members: Alexia Moreno, Lomberto Echane and Daniel Cuellar for winning safety awards from the Tree Care Industry Association. We are #LewisProud!
